Frequently asked questions

Answers for contractors thinking about entering, and for homeowners checking out a winner.

Who can enter?

Any licensed and insured contractor in the United States working in one of our award categories: roofing, gutters, siding, windows and doors, kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, or innovation in home improvement (open to any trade).

How much does it cost?

$149 per entry, and $99 for each additional entry in the same cycle. The fee covers screening, homeowner verification, and judging. After you submit, we email you a secure payment link.

Can I enter more than one job?

Yes. Each job is its own entry, and you can enter different categories.

Which jobs qualify?

Any job your company finished in the last 24 months. It has to be your own work, and the homeowner has to agree to be contacted.

What if my homeowner doesn’t respond?

We send two reminders over 10 days. If we can’t verify the job, the entry isn’t scored, and you can enter a different project in the next cycle.

Will my customer’s address be published?

No. Winner pages show the city only. Homeowner contact details are used for verification and nothing else.

Why can’t my logo be in the photos?

Judges score entries without knowing who submitted them, so the work is judged and not the brand. Your logo goes on your winner page if you win.

How do I use the badge?

Winners get badge files for their website, social media, trucks, and yard signs. Each badge has an ID anyone can check on our Verify page.

Does the award expire?

The award is for a specific year and category, for example the 2027 Roofing Award of Excellence. You can display it as long as you like, with the year shown.

I didn’t win. Can I see why?

Yes. Every entrant gets their scores for each criterion and a short note from the judges.

I’m a homeowner. How do I use this site?

Browse the Winners to see finished work near you, and use the Verify page to check any Built Right badge a contractor shows you.
